Locomotor Skills Included in Hobby Horsing USA’s Program

• Walking: heal toe, penguin, sumo, sloth, toe heel, tippy toe, heels only, marching
• Trotting: fast, slow, in place, moving forward and backwards, move at diagonals
• Stationary: rocking horse, pendulum, Yee Haw, stomping
• Prancing: in place, forward and backwards, move at diagonals
• Skipping: in place, directional, low, high, using the step-hop and marching higher methods
• Hopping: in place, directional, side to side, up and back, changing feet
• Sliding: skating, slide taps, sliding to the side, sliding at diagonals, using different leading feet
• Galloping: in place, directional, slow, fast, changing leading foot
• Leaping: variety of leaping/footwork combinations (leaping over the puddles and leaping onto lily pads, leaping over hurdles)
• Jumping: two-foot, bell, mogul, straddle, scissor, diagonally
